Columbia University DDS
AAID Associate Fellow
ABOI/ID Diplomate Candidate
Advanced IV Sedation Training
15+ Years in Practice

Dr. Vishal Advani is an implant surgeon practicing within Ascension Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. He specializes in complex full-arch reconstruction, advanced atrophic-jaw techniques like pterygoid and trans-sinus implants, FP1 prosthetic surgery with biological tissue preservation, and IV sedation dentistry — and teaches these procedures to other dentists nationally through the Advani Implant Institute.

For patients spending tens of thousands of dollars on a procedure that will affect every meal and conversation for the rest of their life, who performs it matters more than where. Dr. Advani's training, hospital setting, and continuous teaching role mean you're choosing the surgeon other surgeons learn from.

The Surgeon's Path

From Columbia to hospital-based practice.

Dr. Advani's path into implant surgery wasn't accidental. He completed undergraduate studies at the University of Hartford, earning a dual degree — Bachelor of Science in Biology and Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry — with highest honors. The deliberate decision to pursue both life sciences in parallel reflected a deeper interest in the molecular and biological foundations of medicine. From there, he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Columbia University — one of the most rigorous Ivy League dental programs in the country.

From there, he made a deliberate choice that shapes every patient experience today: rather than building a generic family-dentistry practice, he focused obsessively on implant surgery and IV sedation. Over fifteen years of practice and more than 1,000 hours of advanced international continuing education, he developed the technical skill set to handle the cases other dentists refer out — pterygoid implants, trans-sinus placement, palatal-approach surgery, nasopalatine canal anchorage, and FP1 reconstruction with biological tissue preservation.

By the time most patients find me, they've already been told no by someone else. My first job is figuring out whether that "no" was actually right — and most of the time, it wasn't.

The decision to practice within Ascension Alexian Brothers Medical Center reinforced what makes the Institute different. Hospital affiliation isn't a marketing line — it's the credibility of being chosen to operate in a major medical setting, the safety of having medical infrastructure on the same floor, and the trust patients feel walking through the same doors as cardiologists and orthopedic surgeons they already know.

Today, Dr. Advani spends his clinical hours performing the procedures patients travel from across the Midwest to receive — and his teaching hours sharing those techniques with dentists nationally through the Advani Implant Institute.

Education & Credentials

A foundation built on relentless training.

Every credential below was earned through coursework, supervised clinical hours, and examination — not certificates of attendance.

The Advani Implant Institute

Teaching the next generation of implant surgeons.

The Institute exists for one reason: to share the techniques Dr. Advani has refined over thousands of cases with the dentists who want to learn them. Through hands-on, live-patient surgical training, practicing dentists learn protocols for All-on-X, pterygoid implants, trans-sinus surgery, palatal approach, nasopalatine canal implants, FP1 reconstruction with biological preservation techniques, dynamic guided surgery with X-Nav, and IV sedation.

For patients, this matters in a less obvious way: the surgeon who teaches a procedure has to be able to articulate every decision, anticipate every variation, and handle every complication. Teaching forces a level of discipline and continuous improvement that solo practitioners rarely maintain.

Clinical Focus

What Dr. Advani actually does.

A focused practice — not a generic family dentistry. Every appointment is centered on implant surgery, full-arch reconstruction, or sedation-supported complex care.

01 / Full-Arch

All-on-4 & All-on-X

Complete arch restoration for patients missing most teeth or wearing dentures. Often delivered in a single day with same-day fixed teeth.

02 / Advanced

Atrophic Jaw Solutions

Pterygoid implants, trans-sinus surgery, palatal approach, nasal/piriform rim anchorage, and nasopalatine canal implants for severe bone loss.

03 / Biological

FP1 Surgery & Tissue Preservation

FP1 reconstruction using socket shield, root membrane, partial extraction therapy, pontic shield, and root banking — preserving natural tissue architecture.

04 / Technology

X-Nav Dynamic Navigation

Real-time, GPS-style optical tracking during surgery for sub-millimeter implant placement accuracy. Used by less than 1% of dentists in the U.S.

05 / Restorative

Single Tooth Implants

Precise replacement of a missing tooth using TRIOS digital scanning, in-house CAD/CAM design, and 5-axis milled zirconia crowns for long-term durability.

06 / Comfort

IV Sedation Dentistry

Advanced training in IV moderate conscious sedation, administered in-office with monitoring by the surgeon and surgical RN team throughout.

A Note on Zygomatic Implants

Zygomatic implants are available at the Advani Implant Institute for patients with severe upper-jaw atrophy where conventional and advanced atrophic-jaw techniques aren't sufficient. Dr. Advani has completed advanced training in zygomatic surgery, and the Institute is equipped to deliver these procedures with the same standards of pre-operative planning, IV sedation, hospital-based safety, and post-operative care that define every case here.

For patients who've been told elsewhere that they "have no bone for implants" — zygomatic anchorage is one of several solutions available. A CBCT scan at consultation determines which approach is right for your specific anatomy.

Beyond the OR

A surgeon, a teacher, and a person.

Outside the operating room, Dr. Advani is a husband, a father, and a perpetual student of his craft. His spouse is also a dentist — together they own and operate the practice — and they're raising a young family in the Chicago suburbs.

What patients tend to mention most after meeting him isn't a credential or a stat. It's that he listens. That he explains things in plain English. That he doesn't talk down to people about money. That he answers the question they actually asked, not the one his marketing materials prefer to answer.

For an industry that has a reputation for upselling, the absence of pressure is the differentiator. Patients are encouraged to take time, get second opinions, and make the right decision for their lives — even when that decision is "not yet" or "not here." It's a strange way to run a business, and it's also why patients tell their friends.
